About Lives on Earth
Human stories on a changing planetÂ
The podcast
Living on Earth can be a wonderful experience. Laughter, joy, love, creativity, connection are all parts of life to treasure. The prospect of ecological collapse putting those treasured human experiences in danger is scary, and the feelings of despair and anxiety that follow can be challenging and isolating.

Climate scientists and ecologists are clear about the scale of the challenge we face. We are living in a moment of profound ecological disruption, and responding to it will require deep transformation. While the technologies we need already exist, the most difficult barriers are no longer scientific, they are political, cultural, and relational.
The change needed is a deep mindset shift: mental and emotional, not just technological. We need to work out how to move from values of individual greed to those of collective care. From competition to cooperation. From accumulation to appreciation. And how do we get there? Through connecting with other people. Through recognising ourselves in one another. Through shared stories which remind us of our empathy and our human spirit.Â
Â
Let’s share the stories of living in a moment of crisis, and remind ourselves that the lives on this Earth - all of them - are precious.
Inspiration
Lives on Earth is inspired by the idea of the indomitable nature of the human spirit. The idea that, even in moments of profound crisis and societies which encourage selfishness, people continue to care, to connect, and to imagine something better.
Â
These conversations aim to galvanise that collective spirit, by bringing people together through story. In talking about it, the grief, fear and anxiety generated by climate change can become the starting point for renewed connection. The very feelings generated by this crisis can act as the raw material for cultural transformation.Â
